Rosemont / Franklintown / Gwynns Falls
Leon Day Park is a historically celebrated green space in the heart of Gwynns Falls. It is named for Leon Day, a longtime city resident and legendary baseball player who retired to nearby Rosemont and Franklintown Road community after playing for the Baltimore Black Sox Negro League team. Sandtown-Winchester and Edmondston Village also closely border the park.
Despite having two baseball fields, basketball courts, a football field, picnic areas and access to the city’s longest hiking trails, Leon Day Park has also been neglected and underutilized for many years. Grow Home is working with residents near Leon Day on a variety of much-needed improvements to be ready for regular enjoyment.
